The Project:
In a joint effort, Lift Kids Inc. and Friends of Tanzania are initiating the Bagamoyo Village
Project in Tanzania to provide shelter, education, and life improvement for the orphans
as well as business opportunities to allow the village to become self-sustainable.
Purpose:
The purpose of this project is to establish the Bagamoyo Village and help it to become
self-sustainable. The project will provide a home for the Orphans, a home for the adult
caretakers, a pre-school, fresh water source, agriculture, a Guesthouse / O2 Treehouses
for ecotourism/voluntourism, as well as develop business opportunities for villagers
and neighbors.
Background:
The Bagamoyo Village Project is located about 75 km from Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.
The project was established in 2003 by Mary Notman from Friends of Tanzania, and a
dedicated group of volunteers from the Minneapolis/ St. Paul, MN area. Friends of
Tanzania have a similar vision to Lift Kids – sustainable business models that provide
the project with the revenue, food and supplies needed to make the operation
independent. If possible the project can expand and support additional philanthropic
projects in Tanzania. The Bagamoyo Village Project currently requires an annual income
of $13,000 USD to sustain 16 orphans, the local staff, and the schools. Bagamoyo Village
Project has a strong team in Tanzania as well as locally in the Midwest.
