Domestic Community
For the successful implementation of any project, it is imperative that a US-based community from the host country assumes ownership of and responsibility for the project. This community ensures a closer working relationship with the host country and minimizes any cultural differences that might impede the project.
Local Leader/Group
Having an honest, passionate, and committed local leader or group to work with is the keystone to a successful project. This person or group is responsible for managing the project, allocating funds, and dealing with the day-to-day operation. The selection of a dependable leader or group is critical.
Research Local Businesses – Markets/Resources
Small businesses will generate the revenues necessary to sustain the project. Therefore, it is necessary to research the available resources around the village, potential markets, and production capacity. Look at how these business units will not only generate revenues, but how else they could benefit the village, e.g. an internet cafe provides income and a useful service.
Business Plan
The business plan is our tool to raise funds – it shows potential donors that we have done our homework. The plan outlines the costs of the entire project, component by component. Generally, we include a 5-year projection, highlighting the growth of the business components and when we expect the village to be fully self-sustaining.
Kids
Remember, we are called Lift Kids; our primary mission is to empower kids. A village is comprised of multiple components, but the focal point should always be the kids.
