Purpose: The project is to provide an additional revenue source to help Rabuor Village become sustainable. In the long term there may be other projects and synergies between Lift Kids  and Rabuor Village Project. 

 

Description: In a joint effort, Lift Kids and the Rabuor Village Project will initiate a poultry farming operation to provide food for the orphans and to provide additional revenue to make the village sustainable. To download a PDF file of the business plan, please click here.

Timeline:   The first coop is constructed (see picture below) and egg production is expected to start once the poltical unrest subsides.

Background: Rabuor Village Project is located 25 km east of Kisumu in western Kenya. The project was established in 2003 by Loyce Mbewa and a dedicated group of volunteers from the Seattle Washington area. Rabuor Village Project has a similar vision to Lift Kids – sustainable business models that provide the project with the revenue, food and supplies needed to make the operation independent. If possible the project can expand and support additional philanthropic projects. Rabuor Village Project currently needs an annual income of $45,000 to sustain 150 orphans, the local staff, the schools and the farming operations.  Rabuor Village Project has a strong team in Kenya including a very strong women’s group.     

Lift Kids was formed in 2006.  Lift Kids is focused on empowering the world’s poorest children to bring about lasting change through its model of philanthropic franchising. Drawing on its core of professionals, it brings expertise in business development to help fund and develop the poultry operation for the Rabuor Village Project. Core values of sustainability, education, replicability, volunteerism and empowerment (SERVE) align well with Rabuor Village Project, making this a promising operating partnership.
